Cathedral Building

R E C Y L E
Adaptive mixed-use: 6 residential & 7 commercial flrs.24,000 sf, Oakland, CA
One of the many refined neo-classic buildings built in Oakland at the beginning of the 20th century, the historic Cathedral Bldg. is so named for its ornate gothic exterior details. Formerly an office building with commercial at the ground floor the narrow tower, which sits at the acute intersection of Telegraph and San Pablo Aves. in the heart of Oakland, has been transformed into 6 upper level residential floors (I unit per floor) with 7 floors of renovated commercial office space below. The ground floor and basement level are dedicated to public commercial uses. The upgrading of the structure and the revival of its use for modern companies and residents reflects a dedication to large scale recycling that works as a highly efficient path to energy conservation. With adjacency to BART and AC Transit the project represents a landmark in the campaign for sensible, low impact urban renewal.
