Admiralty Complex

R E N E W
Renovation, 217 unit condominium complex: 300,000 sf, Foster City, CA
A smart and economical design by Edward Durell Stone for this mid-60’s apartment project originally designed for pilots and stewardesses, had converted to condos and fallen into disrepair. Our renovation approach focused on exterior details and the common outdoor areas: 2nd level interior courtyards, main access stairs at either end of each condo building, and exterior sunshading and fencing and railing details.
We replaced the existing dry-rotted wood trellises with energy conserving aluminum sunshades and front door canopies designed to underscore the individuality of each unit within a unified design language. New aluminum numbers and divider walls defined the outdoor areas of the upper courtyard units. New aluminum plank fences and lighted garden gates were introduced at the ground level. At the exterior entry stairs we developed new railings and canopies that signified their role as main access points.
The existing gardens checker-boarded throughout the project were maintained as pedestrian pathways forming the heart of the complex.
