New Construction Concept, 1,200 sf, Alameda, CA
Office and store for a boat repair & supply company.
Amidst acres of dry 45; docked sailboats and Motorcraft, we designed a concept for a small concrete tilt; up Headquarters for the Nelson Marine boatyard and supply company. With wall heights and window openings derived from a simple square plan, the solid base structure hosts a prow; like window assembly that feeds light to the upper office level and is balanced on a single angled pier. The mullions support a cantilevered flag mast from which the owner flies his colors. The building enjoys views out to the Estuary and the hills of Oakland beyond.
